ABSTRACT

Critical thinking ability is a person’s capability or proficiency to judge, solve a problem, take out decision, afford confidence, and analyze assumptions based on the evidence in scientifically and rationally that can be certain of. The problem that has come to this study is that not discover yet the impact of self-sufficient studies and reading interest on critical thinking ability of X and XI Students at Ariya Metta Vocational High School 2020/2021 school year. The purpose of this study to analyze the influence of self-sufficient learning and reading interest towards critical thinking ability of X and XI Student at Ariya Metta Vocational High School 2020/2021 school year. Type of this research is qualitative study with using ex post facto method. Sampling technique using proportionate stratified random sampling. Respondent on this study are X and XI class students at Ariya Metta Vocational High School which amount to 116 students. Data collected using questionnaire which has been tested to its validity and reability. Normality test show distribution data is shows that data distribute normally. Linearity test indicate that the X1 affect linear with Y (F= 1,167 and significance= 0,282) whereas the X2 does not linear affect Y (F= 2,360 and it’s significance= 0,001). Multicollinearity test show there isn’t correlation between independent variables (VIF variable X1 and X2= 1,622 smaller than 10). Heteroscedasticity test shows that the significance of independent correlation X1= 0,598 and variable X2= 0,499 means there is no heteroscedasticity on regression model. The results of autocorrelation test shows DW values of 1,959 (amid DU= 1,7323 and (4dU)= 2,2677) means there is no autocorrelation in the research. Based on prerequisite test results, it can be conclude that the data can be analyzed using the double regression analysis.

Data analysis shows that self-sufficient learning and reading interest influence the critical thinking ability of X and XI class student at Ariya Metta Vocational High School 2020/2021 school year (F= 35,488 and it’s significance value= 0,000). Double linear regression equation achieved is Y= 24,718 + 0,436X1 – 0,261X2. Contribution of the self-sufficiency study and reading interest in critical thinking ability by 38,6%. Partial regression analysis results that is: (1) self sufficiency learning affects the critical thinking ability if the variable interest of reading is controlled (t= 4,247 and significance value= 0,000); (2) interest in reading effect critical thinking ability if self sufficient study variable is controlled (t= 3,028 and it’s significant value is= 0,003).
