ABSTRACT

Learning independence is a student’s effort to carry out learning activities
individually or independently based on their intentions/initiatives without
depending on others to master the desired competencies to solve problems. The
problem raised in this study was whether student’s creative thinking skills and
parents parenting patterns effect the learning independence in Buddhist education
learning at SMA Perguruan Buddhi. This study aimed to analyze the efefct of
student’s creative thinking skills and parent’s parenting patterns on independent
learning in Buddhist education learning at SMA Perguruan Buddhi.
This study used a quantitative approach with a non-experimental design,
namely ex post facto. This study used proportionate stratified random sampling.
Respondents of this study were 130 students of grades X and XI at SMA
Perguruan Buddhi. The data were collected using valid and reliable
questionnaires. The normality prerequisite test using the residuals with
Kolmogorov-Smirnov showed the data were distributed normally (value of 1.080
and significance of 0.194). The linearity test showed that X1 had a linear effect on
Y (F = of 0.730 and significance = 0.836), X2 had a linear effect on Y (F = 1.231
and significance = 0.241). Thus, the independent variables in the study had a
linear effect on the dependent variable. The multicollinearity test showed no
relationship between the independent variables (VIF values of X1 and X2 are
1.004 were smaller than 10). The results of the heteroscedasticity test showed that
the significance of independent correlation of X1 = 0.803 and X2 = 0.808. Thus,
no heteroscedasticity in the regression model. The results of the autocorrelation
test showed that the DW value is 2.170 (between dU = 1.7449 and (4-dU) =
2.2551). Thus, no autocorrelation in this study. Based on the results of the
prerequisite tests, the data were analyzed by using multiple regression analysis.

The results of the data analysis by using SPSS version 15.0 for windows
evaluation version showed that students’ creative thinking skills and parent’s
parenting patterns affected learning independence in Buddhist education learning
at SMA Perguruan Buddhi (F = 88.858 and significance value = 0.000). The
multiple linear regression equation was Y = 51.521 + 1,258X1 -0.408X2. The
contribution of creative thinking skills and parent’s parenting patterns to learning
independence was 58.3%. The results of the partial regression analysis were: (1)
creative thinking skills affected the student’s learning independence if the parent’s
parenting patterns were controlled (t = 12,929 and significance value = 0.000);
(2) parent’s parenting patterns affected the learning independence if the creative
thinking skills were controlled (t = 2.423 and significance value = 0.017).
